Maxitrol (Neomycin, Polymyxin B and Dexamethasone)
Maxitrol is a combination of 2 antibiotics and a corticosteroid (dexamethasone). The antibiotics work by slowing the growth of, or killing, sensitive bacteria on the eye. The corticosteroid reduces inflammation.

Therapeutic actions: Dexamethasone is a medicine known as corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation in the affected area. By effecting the damage cells , dexamethasone decreases the release of these substances ,reducing inflammation precesses. Neomycin belongs to a group of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. Neomycin destroys a wide variety of bacteria. By binding to bacterial cell's components, neomycin cause bacteria to produce abnormal proteins. This leads to death of bacteria. Polymixin B sulphate belongs to a group of antibiotics known as polymyxins. It works by increasing the permeability the bacteria's cell wall. This results in lysis of the bacteria.
